MW Roundup: Nevada continues second-half surge with late win at Hawaii

HONOLULU — Nevada showed off its industrious second-half mentality with a come-from-behind win at Hawaii that showcased its ability to close a game and surge after the halftime break.

Cody Fajardo was 17-of-26 for 128 yards, a touchdown and an interception, and he also ran in the go-ahead touchdown from eight yards out in the third quarter, as the Pack (5-3, 2-2 MW) rallied from a 10-6 halftime deficit to swamp the host Warriors (2-6, 1-2), 26-18.

Fajardo ran the ball 23 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns to lead Nevada’s rush attack, and James Butler added 94 yards on 21 carries. Hasaan Henderson hauled in six catches for 47 yards and a touchdown for Nevada.

Ikalka Woolsey completed 18 of 32 passes for 201 yards, a touchdown and interception to lead Hawaii. He also ran for 55 yards and a score on 15 carries.

Here’s how the rest of the Mountain West fared in Week 9 of the college football season.

Boise State 55, BYU 30

At Boise, Idaho, Grant Hedrick threw for 410 yards, four touchdowns and only one interception as the Broncos (6-2) routed the Cougars (4-4) at Bronco Stadium.

Jay Ajayi piled up 118 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries for Boise State, and Thomas Sperbeck had 148 yards and a score on six catches.

Jamaal Williams ran for 70 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries to pace BYU, and Christian Stewart completed 23 of 38 passes for 259 yards, a touchdown and an interception with another touchdown on the ground.

Navy 41, San Jose State 31

At Annapolis, Maryland, Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds ran for 251 yards and three touchdowns on 39 carries as the Midshipmen (4-4) earned a home win over the Spartans (3-4).

Joe Gray paced San Jose State with 322 yards and three touchdowns on 33-of-46 passing, and Tim Crawley hauled in eight catches for 102 yards and a score.

Utah State 34, UNLV 20

At Logan, Craig Harrison threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns before leaving the game on the final play of the third quarter with a lower leg injury as the Aggies (5-3, 2-1 MW) sprinted past the Rebels (2-6, 1-3) in an interdivision Mountain West clash.

Joe Hill added 48 yards and a score on the ground for Utah State.

Devonte Boyd paced UNLV with 128 yards and a touchdown on six receptions.

Colorado State 45, Wyoming 31

At Fort Collins, Colorado, Garrett Grayson threw for 390 yards and five touchdowns to help the Rams (7-1, 3-1 MW) down the Cowboys (3-5, 1-3) in the latest rendition of the Border War.

Rashard Higgins had 174 yards and two touchdowns on five catches for Colorado State.

Brian Hill led Wyoming with 121 yards and two scores on 28 carries.
