CEDAR CITY — An incident that began with a traffic offense ended with a woman using a handgun to assault a man in the Cedar Middle School parking lot on Monday, police said.

A man told police he followed a woman's car for several blocks to the school parking lot after she “passed him illegally and caused oncoming traffic to swerve away to avoid a collision” at about 8 a.m., according to the Cedar City Police Department. When the man approached the woman in the parking lot, she allegedly pointed a handgun at him.

The victim began walking back to his vehicle and the woman exited her vehicle and pursued him, according to a police statement. The woman then grabbed the adult male and struck him in the face with the handgun, the statement said.

A resulting verbal altercation was witnessed by an off-duty deputy from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, according to police. They said the deputy took the woman into custody before the incident could escalate.

Kimberly Tishie, 32, was arrested for investigation of aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon on school premises and disorderly conduct, in addition to a traffic warrant, and booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility.

Police said no students were threatened during the incident.
