BEAVER COUNTY — A man and a teen were arrested Thursday morning after deputies discovered they had stolen two vehicles and the juvenile led troopers on a chase, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies received reports of a vehicle theft in Beaver around 9:30 a.m. A man reported he had driven his white Cadillac Escalade to his office when he saw a green Ford pickup truck pull up next to his vehicle, according to the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office. He saw a male juvenile exit the truck, get into his Escalade and drive away.

The accomplice drove away in the pickup truck, heading the same direction as the Escalade, the sheriff's office said. The victim called 911 and witnesses saw both vehicles driving south on I-15. Deputies responded and attempted to stop the Escalade, but the teen refused to stop and continued driving south, the sheriff’s office said.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers assisted in the chase, laying road spikes in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the juvenile kept driving, the sheriff’s office said. A second attempt was made to spike the vehicle’s tires near Parowan and the tires were deflated. Deputies took the 17-year-old into custody without incident and he was transported to the Iron County Detention Center.

After the teen was taken into custody, UHP officers saw the man drive past them in the green pickup truck, heading south on I-15. The officers made a traffic stop and arrested Jose Tomas Erives, of Rigby, Idaho. Officers determined that the Ford pickup truck had also been stolen, they said.

Erives was booked into the Beaver County Correctional Facility on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, theft of an operable motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
