SCOFIELD RESERVOIR, Carbon County — Three men were cited by wildlife officers after allegedly catching 23 trout and lying to officers about it.

Monday, officers began investigating after they saw a man at Scofield Reservoir carrying a string of fish to a cooler in a vehicle, according to a Division of Wildlife Resources press release.

Officers discovered that the men had collectively caught 23 fish, including one that was outside of the legal size limit, DWR said. At Scofield Reservoir, an individual may catch and keep two cut throat or tiger trout shorter than 15 inches and greater than 22 inches.

Two men did not have fishing licenses, as well, DWR said.

Officers cited the men for wanton destruction of protected wildlife, which could result in license suspensions of up to three years, if convicted.
