OGDEN — A chiropractor was arrested after a woman reported being inappropriately touched during an appointment, police said Friday.

The investigation was launched after a woman told police 67-year-old Michael W. Wimmer “grabbed and squeezed her buttocks and breasts” during her appointment with him on June 25 at the Wimmer Chiropractic Center, located at 413 Washington Boulevard, according to the Ogden Police Department.

“The investigation has determined there have been several victims that have reported inappropriate behavior and possible criminal behavior,” said Ogden police Lt. Danielle Croyle. “Some of those reports did not get reported to police — they were reported to the Department of Professional Licensing. They received those reports and they have taken some procedural action against him.”

Wimmer was arrested Thursday and charged with forcible sexual abuse, a second degree felony, police said. His bail was set at $10,000.

Croyle said the Wimmer Chiropractic Center is a well-established practice in the area, and that to her knowledge, it has not been closed.

Investigators requested that any other patients of Wimmer who had uncomfortable encounters with him or who are concerned about potential inappropriate behavior call detectives at 801-395-8221. So far, Croyle said detectives have identified seven potential victims.

Wimmer's license was reinstated by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing in 2009 after being revoked in 2006, according to documents from the Department of Commerce. When his license was revoked, Wimmer admitted to touching a regular patient "in an inappropriately sexual manner" and making suggestive remarks that led to a consensual sexual relationship that took place during treatment sessions, according to the documents.

Wimmer also pled no contest to a count of lewdness involving a patient he inappropriately touched in 1994.

The Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing said it could neither confirm nor deny that there is an active investigation into Wimmer.
