WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — UNC-Wilmington has been awarded a three-year, $1 million grant to partner with a school in Pakistan in a reciprocal agreement to provide faculty and students with the chance to enhance relationships between the U.S. and the world.
The school would partner with the International Islamic University in Islamabad. It's the first time UNCW has been awarded a grant from the State Department.
The State Department initiated the grant program linking Pakistani universities with U.S. schools in 2012 under the Fulbright-Hays act. Its mission is to promote mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchanges.
UNCW will partner with faculty and administrators at IIUI to implement professional development in teaching, research, and community engagement. The partnership will also serve IIUI's interest in collaborating with UNCW's Centers for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Leadership.
