WEST VALLEY CITY — Nearly a week after a man was shot, seemingly unprovoked, when he answered a knock at his door, police continued to look Friday for a suspect and a motive.

Robert Warren, 72, was shot multiple times on his doorstep on the night of Sept. 27. He and his wife had just returned home, in the 3900 block of Meadowgate Drive, about 10:40 p.m. from a night out at the symphony, when there was a knock at their door. Warren answered and was shot four times.

He remained hospitalized in critical condition Friday and police say they still hadn't been able to fully interview him about what happened due to his injuries.

Neighbors say they have no idea who would have done this, and do not believe the man had any enemies.

The gunman was last seen running north.

Anyone who may have seen the incident or the couple prior to the shooting is asked to call police at 801-840-4000.
