PLAIN CITY, Weber County — The man involved in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night has been identified.

Alan Dale Parkinson, 66, barricaded himself in a shed around 7 p.m., armed with a gun and police said he was behaving in a suicidal manner. Police responded after neighbors reporting hearing gunfire near 2600 North and 3550 West.

When he refused to cooporate with police officers for over two hours, officer-involved shooting protocol took effect. Officers fired at the suspect and he was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Parkinson was released from the hospital Friday and booked into the Weber County Jail in connection with two counts of aggravated assault.

The Weber County Attorney's office will be handling the ongoing investigation.

Utah state court records show that in 2013, Parkinson was charged in Plain City Justice Court with intoxication, a class C misdemeanor, and interfering with an arresting officer, a class B misdemeanor. He took a plea in abeyance, meaning he agreed to plead guilty and the charges would be dismissed if he stayed out of trouble for six months.

In 2008, Parkinson pleaded guilty to simple assault and interfering with an arrest. In exchange, a charge of threat of use of a dangerous weapon in a fight was dismissed. During his arraignment the court ordered that he "not posses any firearms."

He was eventually sentenced to probation and ordered to "complete treatment" at McKay Dee Behavior Center," court records state, which he did in March of 2009.
