PLAIN CITY, Weber County — Weber County police deputies and Ogden SWAT responded to a shots fired call, resulting in the shooting of a 66-year old Plain City resident.

Just before 7 p.m., neighbors heard gunfire near 2600 North and 3550 West and called police.

Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findley said deputies responded to find a 66-year old man barricaded in a shed on the property.

"Deputies set up, made contact with that individual who seemed to be intoxicated and attempted to negotiate with him to come out and talk with them."

Findley said the man refused to come out and was armed with a gun.

Ogden SWAT officers transitioned to the scene and began trying to negotiate with the man, who police said was behaving in a suicidal manner.

After over two hours of refusing to cooperate, the man's behavior put officers onscene in danger. Lt. Findley said officer-involved shooting protocol was then put into effect.

"It's a tough situation when we respond out with somebody threatening to take their own lives. It makes it difficult for the officers."

Officers fired at the suspect and he was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Findley said.

Investigation into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing under the Weber County Sheriff's Office.

As of Thursday night, details of how many shots were fired and the surrounding circumstances of the incident were unclear.

More details will be posted when they are available.
