Utah alumni help Kansas City to blowout win over New England

SALT LAKE CITY — The Kansas City Chiefs should be Utah’s NFL team.

After all, they have a Heisman Trophy finalist from the University of Utah (Alex Smith, a head coach who played at BYU under LaVell Edwards (Andy Reid), and a former all-conference defensive back for the Utes (Sean Smith).

All three figured prominently as the Chiefs blew out the New England Patriots 41-14 on "Monday Night Football." Reid won for the first time ever against Patriots coach Bill Belichick, and Alex Smith passed for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Also, Sean Smith made three tackles and had an interception.

Other Utah alumni played well in the fourth week of the NFL season. Minnesota running back Matt Asiata rushed for 78 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-28 win over Atlanta, while Falcons defensive lineman Paul Soliai made three tackles in the loss. Also, Baltimore receiver Steve Smith caught three touchdown passes in a 38-10 win over Carolina. Additionally, Panthers defensive tackle Star Lotulelei made two tackles in the game. Pittsburgh’s Brice McCain made two tackles for the Steelers in a 28-27 loss to Tampa Bay.

In San Diego, Chargers safety Eric Weddle made four tackles and an interception in a 33-14 win over Jacksonville. Rookie Trevor Reilly made two tackles for the New York Jets in a 24-17 loss to Detroit. Derrick Shelby made three tackles as the Miami Dolphins beat the Oakland Raiders 38-14 in London’s Wembley Stadium.

BYU alumnus Ezekiel Ansah made five tackles for Detroit in the Lions’ win over the New York Jets. Also, Steelers defensive lineman Brett Keisel made a tackle for Pittsburgh in a loss to Tampa Bay.

With Utah State alumni Robert Turbin and Bobby Wagner sitting out this week due to a Seattle bye, Dolphins cornerback Will Davis carried the flag for the Aggies. Davis finished with five tackles in a win over Oakland. Also, Green Bay’s Jarrett Bush made two tackles in a 38-17 win over Chicago.
