TREMONTON — A former veteran officer with the Tremonton Police Department, who at one time investigated sex abuse cases, pleaded guilty this week to spying on a teenage girl and gathering nude photos of her.
Jeremy Rose — an officer with the department for 12 years — took a plea deal on Tuesday in 2nd District Court, pleading guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; two counts of voyeurism, a third-degree felony; communications fraud, a second-degree felony; dealing in harmful materials to a minor, a third-degree felony; and stalking, a class A misdemeanor.
Rose, 37, was accused of setting up fake email accounts from a nude modeling agency and then encouraging a 15-year-old neighbor girl to submit photos of herself. Prosecutors say Rose took thousands of voyeuristic pictures of the teenager, set up a hidden camera in her bedroom and put spy equipment on her cellphone.
The crimes happened in Box Elder County between February 2012 and June 2013. Rose resigned from the police department in July.
In Rose's statement of guilt submitted to the court, he wrote: "I concealed a camera in the child's room to surreptitiously record her in various stages of undress."
When the teen later wanted to stop sending photos of herself to the fake agency, Rose threatened her with breach of contract, he admitted in court documents. He also said he "knowingly and intentionally installed a program on the child's phone so I could monitor her emails, texts and track her location."
As part of the deal, Rose agreed to forfeit all his computers that contained files of the girl, as well as provide authorities with a list of all the photos and videos taken.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 24. He faces prison sentences of one to 15 years for each of the sexual exploitation of a minor charges and the communications fraud charge.
