OREM — A man had his stolen cellphone returned to him after police located it at a McDonald’s Thursday morning, police said.

The theft occurred at the University Mall around 10:50 a.m., according to Orem police Lt. Craig Martinez. A man who worked at the mall set his phone down at a kiosk and walked to a nearby store, Martinez said. When the man returned to the kiosk his cellphone was gone.

While the man was talking to a friend inside the store, the friend said he saw a teenager walk through and leave the area with a cellphone, Martinez said.

The owner of the phone used an app on his iCloud to track his phone via GPS and it was located at a McDonald’s at 15 N. State St., Martinez said. The man contacted Orem police and an officer arrived at the McDonald’s and found a 14-year-old male matching the description given.

The teen was questioned by police and the victim’s cellphone was located. The teen was released to his parents and will face charges on suspicion of theft and possession of stolen property.
