OGDEN — Police are asking for help to locate a man who they say assaulted an officer Tuesday.

Michael Taren was found sleeping in a car parked at 800 Binford Street at about 9:42 a.m., according to the Ogden City Police Department. They said when officers approached to investigate the “suspicious vehicle,” they determined Taren provided them with a false name.

“An officer on the driver’s side of Taren’s vehicle attempted to pull him from the car to arrest him; Taren put the car in drive and sped away,” a statement from police reads. “An officer was struck by the vehicle’s driver’s side window frame and drug for a few feet.”

The officer had some minor soft-tissue damage and was treated at the hospital before being released, according to police.

Investigators said Taren’s identity was discovered using information gathered from his vehicle, which he abandoned a few blocks away. They believe he ran into a wooded area near the El Monte Golf Course.

Anyone with information about Taren’s location can contact the Ogden City Police Department at 801-395-8221. There are currently warrants out for his arrest for felony theft and possession of burglary tools, and Ogden City police said they plan to seek additional arrest warrants for assault on a police officer and avoiding apprehension.
