HERRIMAN — A concerned Herriman parent wants to know why there are video cameras in a local neighborhood park.
Shawn Middleton and his family frequent a park at Herriman Village. He noticed video cameras filming the area within the past week.
“It seems unnecessary at public park where kids are just hanging out playing,” Middleton said.
Middleton was even more concerned when he found a wireless Internet signal.
He “flipped on the Wi-Fi, scrolled through and one of them that was really weird that popped up was ‘IllFindU (I’ll find you),’” Middleton said.
KSL found out the cameras were installed about two weeks ago by the Herriman Village Home Owner’s Association.
“This is a private park in a private community,” Herriman Village HOA said in a statement. “We put the camera up for the sole purpose to deter people from damaging the fence.”
But Middleton, a resident of Herriman Village, said he was never notified that the cameras were being installed.
“I’ve talked to neighbors up and down my street. I’ve talked to neighbors at the park. They didn’t know that the camera was going to come in,” Middleton said.
Middleton said he'd find another park to take his children to until the cameras are gone.
Herriman Village HOA was unsure at the time if and when their residents were notified about the cameras' installation.
