RIVERDALE — Thunderstorms rolled through parts of Northern Utah late Monday and early Tuesday, lighting up the sky and leaving some damage behind.
Lightning hit a tree at a home in Riverdale, splitting part of it and leaving branches in the driveway. No one was injured.
Layton reported .41 inches of rain in a 12-hour period. Several other areas reported hail.
KSL Meteorologist Grant Weyman said noise from thunder woke up many people.
“This was a big storm. It's not every day that on KSL Vortex we see areas of purple. It may have been hail, or heavy, heavy rain mixed in with lightning strikes," he said.
Lightning counters showed up to 50 lightning strikes in a period of 10 to 15 minutes.
The storm moved east, but others are expected intermittently Tuesday. Get the complete forecast on the KSL weather page.
