SALT LAKE CITY — After KSL's Rod Zundel extended the ALS ice bucket challenge during Wedneday's 10 p.m. news cast to the five FBS football coaches in the state, the quintet responded — and challenged an assorted cast of their own.

BYU's Bronco Mendenhall, Utah's Kyle Whittingham, Utah State's Matt Wells, Weber State's Jay Hill and Southern Utah's Ed Lamb each took the challenged and passed it on to several former players and other notables from their program — or outside it — in response. The weeklong event raised awareness and donations for ALS, commonly called Lou Gehrig's disease.

Mendenhall challenged the Utah media, a three-column list that included KSL TV's Jeremiah Jensen and KSL News Radio's Greg Wrubell. Jensen accepted his challenge with a little help from the Clearfield High football team, and Wrubell had an assist from the BYU women's soccer team to accomplish his task.

Whittingham challenged former Ute and current San Diego Charger Eric Weddle, who readily accepted the task. Utah's coach also challenged Reese Witherspoon; no word if she has accepted the challenge.
