ST. CLOUD, Fla. (WESH) — Gator trappers returned to Lake Tohopekaliga in St. Cloud, Florida early Friday morning in an effort to catch the alligator that bit a 9-year-old boy.
James Barney was bitten while swimming in the eastern part of the lake Thursday afternoon, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials.
Trappers hooked an alligator Thursday night, but it broke the fishing line and swam away, officials said.
"It takes a lot to break it. It's over a 150-pound braid. Snapped it clean off without even hitting anything sharp," said Snapper Trapper Joe Eslebough.
