SALT LAKE CITY — Crews found a 74-year-old man Tuesday morning who had been missing overnight in City Creek Canyon.
Salt Lake City police said the man suffered a banged-up knee, cuts and abrasions, and had lost his shoes while trying to find his way in the dark overnight. An ambulance transported him to a hospital but he was expected to be OK.
Family members last heard from him Monday afternoon. They reported him missing around 10:30 p.m. and search and rescue crews were called out around 3:30 a.m.
Investigators searched the canyon and found his vehicle parked about six miles up the canyon.
Early Tuesday crews used a UHP helicopter with infrared capabilities to help in the search. Searchers on the ground found him using their grid search pattern around 6:15 a.m.
