MURRAY — A 62-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition Saturday after a metal pole he was using hit a power line, shocking him.
The man was in the backyard of his home near 5300 South and Allendale Drive (600 West) with several family members when the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m., Murray Police Sgt. Jake Huggard said. The man had been using a metal pole to place some netting over apple trees.
"The metal pole comes into contact with a line that runs through the backyard and knocks him down," Huggard said.
Initially the man's family believed he was not breathing, but medical personnel who responded to the home said the man was breathing and had a pulse. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
"He is still in the hospital, still alive," Huggard said Saturday evening, adding that he does not know what will happen to the man due to the various ways electricity moves through the body. "It is unpredictable."
