BYU running back Jamaal Williams was on Thursday named as one of 53 nominees for the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's premier running back.

Through his sophomore season, Williams stands 10th on BYU's career rushing yardage list. He ran for 1,233 yards in 2013--the 5th highest single-season total in BYU history. He has recorded eight games with 100-plus rushing yards, while his 219 rushing yards at Nevada last season are fifth-most by a BYU player in a single game.
Williams enters his junior season with 2,008 career rushing yards, 1,448 yards away from setting BYU's career record, currently held by Harvey Unga.
BYU's last major college football award winner was running back Luke Staley, who won the Doak Walker Award in 2001.
