CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK — Two people who were killed in a head-on collision on a highway in Capitol Reef National Park Wednesday have been identified, police said.
A Chevrolet truck was traveling westbound on state Route 24 near Twin Rocks when the driver drifted off the right shoulder and then over-corrected to the left at about 8:59 a.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce. The driver moved into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a Scion that was traveling eastbound, he said.
The two occupants of the Scion were pronounced dead at the scene, Royce said. They have been identified as driver Stephen Foster, 43, and passenger Kristina Foster, 41, both from Knoxville, Tennessee. Police said the couple was not wearing seat belts.
The driver of the westbound vehicle was taken by ambulance to the Sevier Valley Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the UHP.
State Route 24 was closed for about three hours after the accident, according to Capitol Reef National Park officials.
