SALT LAKE CITY — Adding to a growing list of celebrities who will participate in Utah’s FantasyCon, organizers announced Friday that Elijah Wood will be making an appearance at the kickoff party.
In total, 12 actors from “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” series will be at the event. Wood will serve as the DJ at the launch party on July 2, and fans will have the opportunity to hear him speak during a question-and-answer session that day.
“We all know Elijah Wood for his role as Frodo in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ films, but most people don’t know that he’s also a really talented DJ,” said FantasyCon founder Josh Patel in a statement. “Elijah has a great love for music, and we’re absolutely thrilled that he is making the time to share this passion with our FantasyCon fans.”
Other people from “The Lord of the Rings” series who will be at FantasyCon include Sean Astin, John Rhys-Davies and Billy Boyd. Wood will only be at FantasyCon for the kickoff event, but the conference is scheduled to run July 3-5.

Simon Pegg, known for his role in the new “Star Trek” movies, will be making his first-ever appearance at a convention.
In addition to guest appearances, FantasyCon will also offer live entertainment, cosplay and interactive games for kids.
