OGDEN — An Ogden man has been charged with shooting and killing his friend inside a storage unit.

Shawn Gerrald Boehme, 45, was charged Thursday with murder, a first-degree felony, in the death of Elgie Ray Mills Jr., 43.

Boehme is being held in the Weber County Jail without bail.

On May 29, police were notified that a body was found in a storage unit at 2930 Pennsylvania Ave. No. 79. Responding officers determined that Mills had been shot in the chest and the head, according to documents filed in 2nd District Court.

Investigators obtained surveillance video and said it shows Mills entering the storage unit about 2:30 p.m. on May 28. Boehme and a third person were already inside.

That third person "heard gunshots inside and was escorted out of the garage by Shawn," charging documents state. "Shawn fled from the scene and employed measures making his ability to be located difficult."

Detectives indicated that the garage was "operated" by Boehme and his father.

Police eventually located Boehme in Layton on Wednesday and arrested him. He admitted shooting Mills "three times inside the shop following a disagreement," the charging documents state.

Ogden police say the two men were friends who got into a fight that escalated.

In addition to murder, Boehme is also charged with two counts of use of a firearm by a restricted person, a second-degree felony.

Boehme pleaded guilty to multiple charges between 1997 and 2007, including possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, failure to stop at the command of police, attempted assault by prisoner and theft, according to Utah state court records.
