SALT LAKE CITY — A man is in critical condition at the University of Utah Burn Center after a small explosion at U.S. Magnesium.
Authorities said it happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the company's plant on Skull Valley Road near the Great Salt Lake.
The victim, a man about 40 years old, suffered severe burns to his head and torso, as well as internal burns from breathing super-heated air.
The cause of the blast is under investigation.
