SUMMIT COUNTY — A Utah teen was rescued from the fast-running water of the Weber River on Friday after his kayak flipped over.
The 15-year-old boy climbed onto a bush in the middle of the river to get out of the water where he waited to be rescued.
Lance Livingston, a member of Summit County search and rescue, said the boy “was very fortunate” the spot where he got stuck happened to be close to a nearby road, as the water is running very high and cold this time of the year.
“We were able to bring the fire truck onto the bridge, extend the ladder out to the victim,” Livingston said. “We had to lower a second ladder and send out one of our climb team members to climb down to the subject, harness him in and raise him back up onto the ladder.”
The teen was checked by medical crews and released. Other than being cold and wet, he was fine.
Rescuers say it's just one more reminder to be extra careful around the water while spring runoff is high.
