EMERY COUNTY — The two people killed in an ATV accident Sunday afternoon were identified Tuesday.
The Emery County Sheriff's Office received reports of an ATV accident in the San Rafael Desert around 3:10 p.m. The accident occurred near the west end of Eagle Canyon near the city of Moore, police said.
Hubert Roger Issel, 70, and his wife, Alana Lea Issel, 64, of American Fork were killed in the accident. Police said the couple were driving down an established trail on a Can-Am side-by-side when they suddenly came to a steep rocky ledge in the trail. The side-by-side hit the ledge and rolled down the trail and off a cliff and fell around 80 feet, police said.
A 7-year-old and 8-year-old grandchild were riding with the Issels and were critically injured in the accident. The children were air lifted to area hospitals.
Due to the size and weight of the ATV, crews had to cut the vehicle in half and remove the wheels in order to take it out of the area via helicopter, according to the Emery County Sheriff's Office.
