PROVO — A man was arrested after stabbing his neighbor with a screwdriver Thursday, police said.

The fight was sparked when a neighbor accused Jerad Gourdin, 30, of stealing his dog, according to Provo Police Lt. Mathew Siufanua. Police said they first received a call about the incident, which occurred near 1600 West and 50 North, at about 7 p.m.

Gourdin went to his neighbor's home from across the street and had a confrontation that resulted in a fist fight, police said. Witnesses told police that Gourdin threw the first punch.

"There were some blows that were exchanged, at which point the suspect pulled out a screwdriver and stabbed the victim,” Siufanua said.

Skin was broken, but the wound from the screwdriver was superficial, he said.

The victim did not initially want to involve police in the incident but later changed his mind and called to file a report, Sifanua said. Gourdin was arrested and booked into the Utah County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault.
