SALT LAKE COUNTY — Police are searching for a man who led them on a dangerous car chase in Salt Lake County. A passenger in the fleeing vehicle was arrested.

Dispatchers received a call just after midnight about a suspicious circumstance in Midvale, according to Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department.

The caller claimed a known drug dealer was knocking on his door. When officers arrived, the person knocking got into a blue Saturn and fled.

Officers pursued the car on 1000 East near Fort Union Boulevard until the Saturn started weaving into oncoming traffic, making it too dangerous for officers to follow.

A short time later, officers found the car abandoned at the intersection of Greenfield Way (1920 East) and Fort Union Boulevard.

“Officers searched for the driver, but have been unable to locate him,” Hoyal said. “Driver is a Caucasian male with shaved head and has tattoos.”

After searching for about an hour, and thanks to the help of tips called in, officers found and arrested the passenger, who is the alleged drug dealer in the initial complaint.

Hoyal said that man will be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on several outstanding warrants.

In the meantime, officers are asking anyone who sees something suspicious in the area to contact police.
