RICHFIELD — Just as one case appears to be headed toward a conclusion, a new one is just beginning for the burglary suspect known as the Mountain Man.
Four new charges were filed Monday against Troy James Knapp, 46.
Last week, it was reported that Knapp was scheduled to be in a federal court in St. George on April 7 for a change of plea hearing in his federal firearms case. He is accused of shooting at a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter and aiming an assault rifle at other officers before surrendering in April 2013.
Knapp also faces 39 other state charges for burglary-related crimes in six Utah counties: Beaver, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Kane and Sanpete.
Now, Sevier County is adding more charges to the list.
Monday, the Sevier County Attorney's Office filed four felony charges in Richfield's 6th District Court: two counts of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; and two counts of theft, a second-degree felony.
Knapp is accused of breaking into summer cabins during winter months and using whatever supplies were inside and then living in remote mountainous areas during the summer. The elusive Knapp, a survivalist, was able to avoid being arrested for nearly seven years.
Knapp was arrested one year ago on April 2, 2013, near Ferron Reservoir.
