SALT LAKE CITY — A new art exhibition about women, young women and girls has opened at the Church Museum of History and Art.

In this exhibition, the artists brought together their concept of women's lives with the idea that almost everything we do has a touch of the divine.

"There's definitely weariness in everyday life and the things we commit ourselves to and we balance. And yet, there is this being watched over from above, these angelic visitors," said Laura Hurtado, the exhibit curator.

Whether it is work, learning or caring for others, these paintings represent real women of all ages and cultures. The exhibit focuses on women as thinking beings, as opposed to women as an idea like the Statue of Liberty or Virtue.

In online interviews provided by the LDS Church, the artists — Lee Udall Bennion, Brian Kershinik and Kathleen Peterson — bring different styles to a common theme of everyday spirituality.

"Our self-worth is what our Heavenly Father thinks of us and I think it's more than we can imagine. And I think our Father in Heaven expects us to see that in our brothers and sisters here on the earth," Peterson said.

The paintings are also meant to represent the Relief Society theme of charity and the young women's values of faith, divine nature, choice and accountability. And for children, there are interactive computers on easels so that they have an appreciation of what they see and how it's done.

"My hope is that those who come in to visit the exhibition would find a painting they could identify with, that rang true in terms of their experience," Hurtado said.

The exhibition, "Practicing Charity: Everyday Daughters of God," will be at the Church Museum of History and Art through Sept. 14.
