PROVO — University police are seeking help to identify a man who groped a woman in her apartment at Brigham Young University Tuesday.

The man entered a women's apartment building at Wyview Park, which is part of BYU's on-campus housing, at around 3 a.m., according to University Police.

"When one of the residents confronted him, he grabbed her and began sexually fondling her," Chief Larry Stott wrote in a statement. "When the woman screamed and her friend entered the living room, the suspect left."

Investigators described the man as being a white male who is about 5-foot-7, clean-shaven and of medium build. They said he spoke with an accent and was wearing all black clothing, including a black jacket with a hood.

An email was sent by University Police to the campus community Tuesday asking for people to be cautious and aware of any suspicious activity.

There have been seven reports of women being groped on or near the BYU campus so far in 2014, police said. They said the other incidents occurred when a man walked by a woman and groped her as he passed by. The women were walking by themselves in all of the cases except one, they said.

Police advised that women walk with a friend whenever possible, especially after dark. In the other reports, the man was described as sometimes wearing a hoodie or running clothes, being between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-11, in his early 20s, and around 150 pounds.

Anyone who has information about the incident at Wyview or other related cases can contact University Police at 801-422-2222.
