OGDEN — A wanted fugitive suspected in a recent string of residential burglaries was arrested Wednesday after an officer fired an undisclosed number of shots following a chase.

Austin James Luckey, 21, was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of three counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, drug possession, failure to stop or respond at the command of a police officer, and three outstanding warrants.

The incident began late Tuesday when Riverdale police investigated a home burglary. They spotted a suspect vehicle, but the driver got away. Before losing sight of him, however, officers were able to identify the driver as Luckey, said Ogden Police Lt. Danielle Croyle.

Police later spotted Luckey and a chase ensued. At one point, Luckey rammed a pursuing police vehicle, Croyle said. With all vehicles stopped, Luckey allegedly brandished a gun. That's when an officer fired shots. No one was injured and Luckey was taken into custody a short time later.

He is wanted for questioning in connection with multiple crimes throughout Weber County, Croyle said.

In August, Luckey was found guilty of issuing a bad check, according to Utah state court records. He was convicted of felony assault in 2012 and sentenced to probation, but ordered to wear a GPS monitor, according to court records. He was sentenced to jail in July for violating his probation, and in January violated his probation again, according to court records.

In the assault incident, court records state Luckey and a juvenile ran away from home and started living in a vacant house. When a person discovered they were living there and went to talk to them, Luckey and the juvenile attacked the man, according to court records.

In December, Luckey was convicted of felony evading after getting into a chase with Clearfield police. He was able to get away, but when officers contacted him later by texting, he told them he was going to "run from probation," according to Adult Probation and Parole records.
