SALT LAKE CITY — A man is facing an attempted murder charge after police say he repeatedly stabbed a woman with whom he used to live.
Ronald Toby Rivera, 63, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony.
Police say the woman was walking near a women's shelter on Rio Grande Street, where she was living on Feb. 24. Charging documents say Rivera jumped up behind the woman while she was outside and attacked her.
Rivera "grabbed me around the neck, and then started to stab me everywhere he could," the woman said, according to charging documents.
The woman was treated for multiple stab wounds to her chest, abdomen and back of her neck, according to the charges.
Rivera was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on the same day.
A search of court records indicates Rivera pleaded guilty in 2012 to assault, a class A misdemeanor.
