SALT LAKE CITY — Police arrested three people after a couple of overnight robberies in Salt Lake City.

Police received a report of an armed robbery at a store near 600 North and 1200 West late Wednesday night, according to Lt. Josh Scharman of the Salt Lake City Police Department. The robbers reportedly left in a car.

Officers found what they believed to be the suspect vehicle at a gas station at 700 North and Redwood Road, where another robbery was reported. The car had been left in the middle of the road as three people attempted to steal beer from the gas station, Scharman said.

"When they came out they were confronted by the officers. After a brief struggle (they were) taken into custody, but the driver was able to drive away," Scharman said.

Police caught up with the driver farther down Redwood Road, but he then fled on foot.

Officers eventually caught him and took him into custody, as well.

No names were released and police were still working to determine if the trio had weapons.
