RIVERTON — Thursday may be the opening day for the Sundance Film Festival, but it's not the only place Utahns can see good acting. One high school in the Jordan School District is also getting national attention.
Stage Directions Magazine highlights five high schools across the country every year with what it believes are the top drama departments nationwide. This year, Riverton High School is on that list.
"I have so many friends and so many colleagues and so many graduates from universities in the state of Utah that it makes me super impressed that Stage Directions singled out us," said Riverton High drama teacher Clin Eaton.
Drama departments in other schools are also extremely good, Eaton said, so it feels good to get such high praise on a national scale. He said teachers here actually cooperate with each other, even though they have to face each other in competitions.
"You get to know other teachers and you share stuff. We're on the phone with other teachers, letting them know if [we] have props and costumes and different things to borrow," he said.
Eaton was also honored as the Theater Teacher of the year by the Utah High School Activities Association.
"Because of Stage Directions Magazine and because of this award, we're also being considered for a national award," he said.
