WEST VALLEY CITY — A man shot by a West Valley police officer has been released from the hospital and transferred into the Salt Lake County Jail.
On Dec. 15, Oston Shiloh Fairbourn — wearing only shorts and shoes — was allegedly threatening people in the area of 3500 South and 3200 West. When a responding officer walked out into the intersection to talk to him, Fairbourn responded by pulling out a "large, fixed blade knife" and told the officer: "You're gonna (expletive) die," according to charging documents.
Fairbourn, 26, ignored the officer's orders to stop and drop his weapon and continued to move toward the officer, forcing the officer to shoot him, investigators said.
Last week, Fairbourn was charged in 3rd District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony, and assaulting an officer, a second-degree felony. Bail was set at $500,000.
On Sunday, he was released from the hospital and transferred to the jail. Fairbourn's initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
