SALT LAKE CITY — A man who allegedly robbed a credit union Friday was arrested within six hours of the crime.

A man walked into the TransWest Credit Union at 39 W. 2100 South around 4:20 p.m. Friday and demanded cash, according to South Salt Lake Police Public Information Officer, Gary Keller. The man threatened to shoot employees, but he never showed a gun during the incident. The man left the credit union with an undisclosed amount of cash.

However, a South Salt Lake police officer saw the man walking near 3300 South and 200 East around 10 p.m., Keller said. The police officer said he noticed the man because his description and clothing matched the robber's in the surveillance footage. When the officer searched the man, a large amount of cash was located.

The man was identified as Daniel Joseph Carlton, 66, and he was taken into custody and arrested without incident. Carlton was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery and possession of a controlled substance.
