AMERICAN FORK — A 33-year-old man died Sunday evening when his car was hit by a pickup truck in the westbound lanes of Pioneer Crossing.

American Fork Police Lt. Sam Liddiard said the accident happened at about 5:15 p.m. The 33-year-old man was in a passenger car driving east when the vehicle somehow crossed over the raised median and into westbound lanes, Liddiard said, and was then hit by a pickup truck.

"The driver of the passenger car is deceased," Liddiard said. "We know who that individual is, we're just trying to make next-of-kin notifications" before releasing his name.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to American Fork Hospital with minor injuries, the lieutenant said.

The accident closed westbound Pioneer Crossing at its junction with I-15 for a few hours while police investigated the crash scene.

Investigators were working Sunday night to determine what caused the 33-year-old to lose control of his vehicle.
