WEST VALLEY CITY — A man flagged down a car Thursday and told the driver he had been shot, police said.
Stephen Sierra, 36, tried to convince a man leaving his neighborhood to give him cigarettes, said Sgt. Jason Hauer of the West Valley City Police Department. During a short conversation Sierra disclosed the fact that he had been shot and the driver called police when he noticed Sierra was having trouble walking.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:30 p.m. to 3900 S. 2700 West to investigate the gunshot wound, Hauer said.
Detectives said Sierra told them "...it's karma, I deserve to have been shot."
Police said he is an Adult Probation and Patrol fugitive and registered sex offender. He was charged with child sex abuse in 2004, according to court documents. In 2003 he was also charged with criminal trespass, theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sierra told investigators he was in the area of 4100 S. 2700 West when he was shot, but has not shared details of what happened with them.
