SALT LAKE CITY — Fire investigators were looking for a transient Wednesday to see what he might know about a two-alarm house fire.
About 7:35 a.m., crews were called to a fire at 148 N. Laxon Ct. (915 West). The fire started inside the garage, spread to the adjacent house and then to the garage next door, said Salt Lake fire spokesman Jasen Asay.
Firefighters ordered three adults and one juvenile out of the burning house when they arrived. It took crews about an hour to extinguish the large fire, Asay said. One complication firefighters faced were power lines that dropped onto the roof of one of the burning garages.
Witnesses told investigators they saw a transient man known to frequent the area fleeing from the burning garage. A cause of the fire was not known Wednesday, but Asay said they wanted to find the man to question him.
As of midday they were still searching, but Asay said investigators knew whom they were looking for.
One firefighter suffered a minor hand injury during the incident. He was not transported to a local hospital.
The American Red Cross was assisting the family who will not be allowed back into their home Wednesday.
