SALT LAKE CITY — Police have identified a man killed in a weekend crash downtown.

Bryan Tyler Delany, 18, was killed around 5:20 a.m. Friday while riding in a vehicle headed east on 600 South, Salt Lake police reported. Delany, the passenger, was killed instantly when a pickup truck traveling north on West Temple collided with the sedan he was riding in.

The 20-year-old driving the sedan was hospitalized with critical injuries. No update on his condition was available Monday. Salt Lake Police Sgt. Robin Heiden said the driver of the truck was not injured in the crash and did not want to be transported to the hospital.

Police said a preliminary investigation suggested the crash was caused when the driver of the sedan ran a red light at the intersection. Heiden said there was no indication that impairment played a role in the crash.

The incident remained under investigation Monday.
