SALT LAKE CITY — Summertime is the time for the many housing events all over the state. One Salt Lake real estate company is going to show off the really expensive stuff.

It's a tour of homes in the $1 million and above price range. There aren't any cookie-cutter houses to be seen, however.

"That's what's fun about the million-dollar-plus price range," said Dave Frederickson, president of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. "All of them offer unique features or unique details about the properties."

One of the homes in Salt Lake City features lush gardens, a goldfish-stocked creek, stone, stainless and wood interior on about an acre. Keller Williams Real Estate is working with agents from other companies and will open up 13 properties like the one above for public tours Saturday.

"The market above a million dollars has increased dramatically, as the rest of the market has in the last several years," Frederickson said.

The real estate business pendulum has swung back and forth recently, but the market in Utah is healthy again in all price ranges. But on the upper end, there's definitely a trend. Recently, sales have been up as interest rates remain attractive.

"The inventory is coming down, the sales prices are coming up," Frederickson said. "Activity, that is, the number of sales, is coming up. It's a good market."

Frederickson said those buying homes in the million dollar price range usually pay cash. And there are plenty of people out there ready to spend it on something special.

"They all offer very unique features," he said. "Some would be the exteriors ... some might be on a smaller lot with more interior features, but each and every million dollar plus home is different."

The million-dollar homes are open for tours Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
