WOODLAND HILLS — Two people were injured when their dune buggy lost its brakes and rolled in Woodland Hills.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the bottom of Oak Drive and Oak Ridge Circle around 5:15 a.m., according to Chief Craig Northup of the Woodland Hills Fire Department.
When crews arrived, they found two people -- a man and woman from Salem, Utah -- who had been ejected from a dune buggy. Northup said the brakes on the dune buggy apparently failed. The 34-year-old woman, who was driving, tried to negotiate a turn but the vehicle crashed and rolled down an embankment.
The woman suffered a broken wrist and head injury, and was flown to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. She was in serious condition, but was alert and talking.
The 33-year-old man was transported by ambulance to Mountain View Hospital in Payson in stable condition with minor injuries.
Northup said the crash victims were not wearing helmets. They had been riding for about three hours before the crash. Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
He said it's not uncommon for people in the area to ride ATVs and dune buggy-type vehicles.
