SALT LAKE CITY — Four people were taken by police for questioning following a shooting outside a Salt Lake City bar that left one man injured Sunday morning. One man was arrested.

Police received reports of a shooting at the Circle Lounge on 328 S. State Street around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Several individuals had reportedly been involved in an altercation earlier in the evening and had been asked to leave the Circle Lounge, according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Scott White.

White said the individuals returned to the bar around closing time when people began leaving the building, and fired four or five shots into the crowd.

A 22-year-old man was hit in the calf by a round during the shooting and was transported to the University Medical Center in non-critical condition.

The four suspects were seen leaving the area in a silver BMW or Mitsubishi Lancer, and eyewitnesses were able to record the license plate number. Salt Lake City Police traced the license plate number to a Cottonwood Heights residence, and four individuals were taken in for questioning in connection with the shooting.

Jaquel Pierre Lee, 24, was arrested in connection with the incident. Police don't think the man was an intended target.

Jail documents stated that Lee said he was at the club. They also stated that in text messages, Lee said he fired two shots into the crowd and that he asked his girlfriend for the weapon.

The documents say he had injuries to the face and head, indicating he may have been in a fight.

Lee has a criminal history that includes theft, criminal mischief and domestic violence in the presence of a child. He has also served time in prison.

He was booked into jail for discharging a gun.
