WEST JORDAN — A motorcyclist survived a potentially deadly accident late Tuesday night after slamming into a semitrailer near freeway speeds. The man then wandered a mile from the scene.

Just before 10 p.m., a 26-year-old man was riding his motorcycle along the Mountain View Corridor when he ran a red light. Subsequently, the man slammed into the side of a semitrailer, according to West Jordan police.

"The driver of the motorcycle got up and took off," said West Jordan Lt. Joe Monson. He said that many officers and firefighters were out looking for him.

A short time later, and more than a mile down the road, he was found. Though the man was flown to a local hospital as a precaution, he had no life-threatening injuries.

Officers are still trying to figure out why the man left the scene. Alcohol could have played a role.

The man may face charges as a result of the crash.

"We're looking at hit and run and the DUI possibly," Monson said. "Those are charges that are being looked at."
