SYRACUSE — A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition Monday after being crushed by a dresser and a television.
Crews were called to a home near 780 West and 2500 South just before 9 a.m., Syracuse Fire Chief Eric Froerer said. Once there, they learned that a dresser and heavy television set had either fallen or been pulled to the ground, landing on a 3-year-old child.
Froerer said the girl had significant, critical injuries and she was transported to Primary Children's Medical Center by medical helicopter.
"She's getting the best care that's available to her," Froerer said. "Hopefully she'll have a positive outcome."
Primary Children's child advocacy manager Janet Brooks said 43,000 accidents like this occur yearly nationwide.
"We all have children, and sometimes things happen, but we can't just say injury is a part of life," she said.
Brooks stressed constant supervision of kids and cautioned parents to tie down heavy furniture and appliances.
