MARSHALL, Michigan — A group of BYU students traveled to Michigan Friday to compete in building the most fuel efficient car in North America.
The SAE Supermileage Competition is held annually to find not the fastest, but the most fuel efficient cars. Eric Wardell is a member of the BYU team competing at the event, and he said their car currently receives around 1,300 miles per gallon.
The students drove their fish-shaped race car from Provo to Marshall on one tank of gas, but at a top speed of 25 miles per hour.
The students' goal is to increase the fuel efficiency in their car to 2,000 miles per gallon.
