SALT LAKE CITY — For those diagnosed with breast cancer, the Race for the Cure 5K is not just a shot at a cure, but a reflection of the thousands of people who support their fight.
More than 10,000 people brought their stories, support, and success together in downtown Salt Lake City Saturday morning with one goal in mind: Running breast cancer out of town. Twenty-five percent of the race's proceeds go to research, the remaining 75 percent is donated to local breast cancer organizations.
"I'm just touched. I'm touched by the spirit and by everybody being here," said Jill Thompson, who was diagnosed with breast cancer one year ago. "I have a wonderful team behind me, here supporting me."
Thompson's family joined her in the 5K.
Another participant, Toni Cooper, survived breast cancer in 2004, but the cancer was spotted again in 2010.
"When you come here, you feel love, you just let go of everything that's happening in your life," she said.
