PROVO, Utah (AP) — A woman accused of hitting a bicyclist in Provo and sending him to his death in front of a train has pleaded guilty to reduced charges.

The Daily Herald reported that 49-year-old Maria Fregoso-Avina pleaded guilty to negligent homicide Thursday. Charges of improper lookout and operating an unsafe vehicle were dropped.

Police say the woman's SUV hit 69-year-old Douglas Crow on Feb. 15. After Fregoso-Avina's SUV hit Crow's bike, he fell into train tracks. He died after being struck by a FrontRunner commuter train.

Prosecutors say Fregoso-Avina hadn't properly cleaned the ice off her windshield and didn't see Crow. She pulled over after the collision and stayed on the scene.

Fergoso-Avina's defense attorney, Lance Star, told The Daily Herald that she took the deal because she wants the family to get closure and wants the case to be over.

Her lawyer says she'll be deported after she's released from the case. Sentencing is set for April 11. Fergoso-Avina could face up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
