COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Police are working with prosecutors to charge a man in a Saturday incident involving a pellet gun and some high tempers.
At about 5 p.m. Saturday evening, a man apparently took offense to the driving of another vehicle around 3000 East and Juliette Way, according to Sgt. Gary Young with Cottonwood Heights Police.
The man then pulled out a pellet gun and fired at the other vehicle several times. The pellets struck the vehicle and did some minor damage, Young said.
The driver who was fired upon then took down the license plate number of the alleged shooter and called police. They were able to track the man down and seize the pellet gun, Young said.
Prosecutors will determine Monday if charges will be filed, but Young said police are investigating the man for aggravated assault, discharging a weapon from a moving vehicle and criminal mischief.
Young said that because of the way the Utah Code is written, a pellet gun can be considered a deadly weapon. He said that even a pellet gun could cause bodily harm, serious damage to a vehicle or even precipitate a serious accident, given that it was fired at another car.
A name will not be released until charges are filed.
